Introduction

Big Data Search and Mining Laboratory(Big Data Search and Mining Lab.BDSM@BIT)

The mission of Big Data Search and Mining Laboratory in Beijing Institute of Technology(BDSM@BIT) is to focus on the research of big data and artificial intelligence (AI). The research interests are oriented to the big data research, data mining, social network analysis, knowledge graph and natural language processing (NLP).
BDSM@BIT has over 20 research projects been granted by National Science Foundation of China, Chinese National Programs for High-Tech R&D (863 Program), Key Project of Chinese National Programs for R&D (973 Program). BDSM@BIT also built a worldwide cooperation with international universities such as University of Pennsylvania, The Technical University of Madrid and Dublin City University. The technology in BDSM@BIT is applied in thousands of international companies including Expert System in Italy, NewsCorp, Huawei and the People’s Daily.

Dr.Kevin Zhang

Dr. Hua-Ping Zhang is an associate professor in Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). As the director of BDSM@BIT, Dr. Zhang is the founder of NLPIR-ICTCLAS, the most popular Chinese word segmentation system. Meanwhile, he is also an advanced member of China Computer Federation, the guest professor in Capital Normal University and Liaoning Normal University.
As the team leader, Dr. Zhang has been awarded for over 10 research projects by National Science Foundation. He has published 3 books, over 20 papers. At the same time, he is also a reviewer of several journals, such as Computer R&D and Chinese Online Scientific Paper. His research interests include big data search and mining, natural language processing and information retrieval.
Dr. Zhang developed Chinese lexical analysis system ICTCLAS, which ranked top in international word segmentation field. He was awarded with the 1st prize of Qian Wei-Chang Chinese Information Science and Technology Award, president scholarship of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Special President Award of Institute of Computing Technology (ICT).
